Marked by God’s Power
“When Israel saw the great power which the Lord had used against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in His servant Moses.”— Exodus 14:31
Once when I was in Israel, I stood at the Red Sea and thought about a well-known account in the Bible. I know you are probably familiar with it. The Israelites had been slaves in Egypt for four hundred years, and after a mighty demonstration of God’s power, Pharaoh let them go. Then Pharaoh changed his mind and sent his army to return them to slavery.
The Israelites were moving toward the land God promised them, but when they came up against the Red Sea, they found themselves trapped. With this sea in front of them and Pharaoh’s army chasing them, they were facing an impossible situation. But God loved them so much that He did something supernatural. He parted the sea, enabling them to walk across on dry land.
From the ten plagues in Egypt to the parting of the Red Sea, the miracles God performed to bring the Israelites out of slavery and into the Promised Land marked His people. Exodus 14:31 says the people feared the Lord because of the mighty works He did, and they believed in Him.
Just as the supernatural power of God marked the Israelites, so too He is marking you. The Father is working supernaturally in the lives of His children, and the work He is doing in you will mark and change you. He may be delivering you from slavery to fear, anger, pride, or lust. Or maybe He is miraculously healing your body or restoring a broken relationship. Ask the Holy Spirit to bring you into a deeper revelation of His work in your life. As you turn your whole heart over to Him, He is marking you by His Spirit’s power.
Father God, I ask that You break into my life with a mighty demonstration of Your power. Part any sea that needs to open in my life so I can walk in freedom and enter a deeper level of intimacy with You. Father, You’ve done powerful things for Your children in the past, and I ask, Abba Daddy, that You do those same types of things for me. May Your power mark me just as it marked the children of Israel.
